To love what you do and feel that it matters - how could anything be more
fun?
~Katharine Graham, American newspaper publisher
Being young in society today presents numerous challenges – dealing
with peer pressure, meeting the demands and expectations of our culture, and making the right decisions in a world that seems
indifferent to whether or not that really matters.
As an educator, my goal is to help my students develop the character needed to cope with these, and other pressures,
that they will encounter throughout their lives.
I have discovered that all children, no matter the age or socioeconomic background, appreciate being treated with the same
respect and dignity, as I would expect. I value the idea of cooperative learning, where varying opinions and ideas
are welcomed and respected, and my students feel comfortable expressing their views. I plan to integrate in
my classroom, the philopsophy that my students'experiences in my classroom, although short-term in comparison, are an
important part of how they will learn to handle situations in the future.
I enjoy
working with today's youth and being a part of something positive in their lives. I know that I have benefited greatly
from my experiences with my students and I look forward to many more as I prepare to begin my teaching career.
